The Garderobe of Death

£1.77

England in 1067 and King William’s favourite hunting companion has been murdered. Given the personal position of the fatal wound, the route to the execution site is a mystery. Medieval monks are usually good at solving crimes…Brother Hermitage is a bit of an exception.

However, motivated by the point of a sword, he and his companion Wat the weaver set off to get to the bottom of things. This is the second of the Chronicles of Brother Hermitage and it reveals many things – improvement is not one of them. If you’re looking for a poignant evocation of the medieval world, buy a different book.

Reviews for The Garderobe of Death

This is a very disrespectful treatment of history just after the Norman conquest, brilliantly done. Brother Hermitage is Cadfael influenced by Blackadder and shades of Baldrick can be seen in several of the other characters. Parts of this had me laughing till the tears fell.

Highly recommend if you are into medieval murder mysteries and have a sense of humour.
